September 3, 2020 from 6:30-8:00 PM
We’re collaborating with Cache Canning Co to bring you this new workshop all about creating two delicious beverages that are as delicious as they are good for you. You might not be familiar with water kefirs, but this natural, home-fermented drink uses a domesticated culture to get started, and has a milder taste than kombucha, and is quicker to make! Wild Sodas combine all the gut-healthy benefits of fermented vegetables with the crisp flavor of your favorite beverage. Either by itself, or by flavoring with your favorite fruits and herbs, this drink captures wild yeasts and uses those to create your new favorite, naturally fermented beverage.
The instructors will start by discussing the basics of fermentation, including what’s going on in your jar after you close the lid. They’ll provide samples of water kefirs and wild sodas for tasting, and they’ll share some surefire recipes that will have you foraging wild flowers and herbs that you can use to get your own beverage started. In class together, you’ll mix your kefir grains, sugars, and flavorings. Then, you’ll take your creation home and follow the directions to let it ferment before bottling. Soon, you’ll have your own delicious creations to enjoy!
This workshop will be held outside, in our covered breezeway and because safety comes first, we’ve limited seats for this class to ensure that each attendee will have their own space at least six feet from other participants. We ask that you wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth in order to attend this workshop.
