March 21st, 7:00 PM- 8:30 PM at Snuck Farm
If you’ve ever tried a farm-fresh egg, you know it’s an incredible experience. The experience of raising and keeping the hens who lay fresh eggs is also deeply rewarding, but it can be difficult to know where to start. This workshop is the first in a two-part series for those who are exploring keeping backyard chickens. Celia Bell will join us to share her considerable expertise in raising and caring for a flock of laying hens, including everything a beginner needs to get started.
In this workshop, Celia will talk about what you need to know before you start. She’ll share general information about poultry and breeds, some of the benefits and challenges of keeping chickens, relevant laws, and necessary equipment. She’ll also talk about designing a coop for easier access and care. You’ll leave the workshop empowered to begin planning your own backyard chicken coop. If you’re interested in more in-depth information - especially about what to do once your chicks arrive - don’t forget to sign up for next week’s workshop as well!
